Segway as electric wheelchair! Yes, sir!
Nice modification of the Segway done by spanish designer Josep Mora from Barcelona! Among modifications there is obviously an added seat, a hand break to keep the vehicle standing on its own when stopped, a folding handle bar and a folding ramp to put the vehicle in the car's trunk.
By time of this writing this is not endorsed by Segway, neither has the company commented to our question regarding possile future models for handicaped.
Find more informationa and other mr. Mora's projects at http://www.josepmora.com/

At the Segfest in Long Beach this fall, a fellow without any legs was zooming around on a Segway just fine. Segay does not call their device a handicapped device because of the pitfalls of the regulatory entanglements involved. However, for those who can adapt to it, or who can adapt it to them, it can be nothing less than miraculous.

How does one get a segway for sitting for my 86 year old mother who can’t handle all the mecanisms of lifting and storing an elec. scooter?

I am afraid, that until when there is a company who does a Segway modification on commercial ground, it is just one option - to do it yourself… Or maybe contact one of the people who did it and ask for instructions or inquire if they are willing to sell their modified segway.
